expert advice |
"Be open to fun ideas," proclaims Stephanie Smith, Owner of 831 Photography. "The more willing a couple and their bridal party is to try new things, the more interesting their pictures will be. Don't be worried about walking in the grass with your wedding dress - - unless it's a little muddy and you're getting your pictures done before the ceremony!"
" Wedding photography is an art form which takes years of training and experience to achieve and then only perfected by a relatively few professionals in the industry," states Christopher Norris of Christopher Norris Photographers. "Being able to capture the celebration of love, life and friendship, the essence of every wedding, should be entrusted to highly skilled and accomplished photographers who have devoted themselves in preserving these once-in-a-lifetime moments."
Having two photographers on your wedding can be invaluable but finding a husband wife team can be even better. One person can focus on the bride's perspective while the other captures the groom's point of view." says Genevieve Nisly of Genevieve Nisly Photography. "Photographer couples bring a masculine and feminine perspective that complement each other and tell a complete story.
Brad Ronevich of BCR Studios suggests, “Look at a complete wedding. Anyone can get a few good shots out of 2000 photos. Only a real pro can offer uncompromising quality throughout an entire day's worth of photos - no matter the situation or location.
The best thing a couple can do to get the most out of their formal photos is to spend time before the wedding with their photographer scouting locations and brainstorming ideas. A couple that takes interest in the look of their photos will always receive a final product that they are happier with. That being said, it is also important that you trust your photographer to make the most of the ideas and the locations, and to be open to their suggestions. Ideas that sound silly can often look amazing!" suggests
Jarred Wagner of InLux Photo.
Larry Spencer of Spencer Photography, Inc adds, "Every bride needs to consider the value of having an experienced professional photographer. Not how much it costs but how much value they place on the images that the professional will capture on their wedding day. These images and the album that contain them will be passed down from generation to generation as a connection and reminder of the generations that came before them. That is why having a experienced professional is so important.
"Great wedding photography is the ability to capture the heart and soul of the most important day in your life" Ken Love Photography.
"Try to choose a photographer whose personality is similar to the bride and groom" advises Ken Cavanaugh of Cavanaugh Photography. "It's important that the couple meet with the photographer together so that you can both decide if this is the person you feel will deliver the style, quality and essence of your wedding day." Cavanaugh Photography
Rachel from Linczak Photography suggests that brides and grooms should schedule their wedding day carefully to make sure there is enough time for everything they would like to accomplish. So many times, important details are cut short or the couple misses out, just because of poor time management. Discuss every part of the day with your photographer and figure what amount of time is best for everyone involved - not just what seems convenient.
"Think about planning something unique for your reception. We've seen special dances by family members and friends in honor of the couple. We've seen the groom perform a song for the bride from when they first met. These special events will be remembered for a lifetime. From a photography standpoint, this gives us a wide range of images to capture each with their own unique story. You can look back 50 years from now and relive every part of your day." Z-Media
"The successful capturing of quality video on your wedding day, without being distracting or obnoxious, is a learned skill," notes Paul Perhacs of Mystic Image Video. "A videographer's experience level matters greatly, so ask a potential videographer how many weddings he/she has shot at your ceremony & reception location. His ability to show you real-life examples of similar work, produced for others, will help you to gauge his experience and worth."
Take the time to discover the vendor willing to collaborate. You only get married once, so your wedding day should be as important to your vendor as it is to you. Some studios are often to busy to designate sufficient time to hear the opinions of their brides, make sure your studio of choice has time to pencil you in for concerns or last minute changes. Learn your photographers policy on all day coverage. Second only to the Wedding Planner, photographers are normally the vendor who assists in the pacing of your
wedding day. Be sure to get the best service and not just the best price. Omari from Jazzymae Photography.
