A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.

  expert advice

" Assuming you want your DJ or band leader to act as master of ceremonies, it's important to evaluate whether your choice will be able to talk, spin, entertain and keep track of your wedding timetable--all at the same time," adds Gerry Praizner of Champagne Entertainment.  " Keep in mind that you need someone who's friendly, charismatic, diplomatic, energetic and whose rapport and banter match the tone and style of your wedding."

“Don’t feel pressured into signing too fast on the bottom line,” suggests John & Darla English  of Special Productions. “Trust your instincts. Don’t let any band leader or agent pressure you into signing a contract because they have ‘another client who wants your date’ if you don’t sign now. If the ‘other person’ wanted to book that date they would have booked it then and there, just like the band leader or agent wants you to do. Remember, your event is too important to be pressured into making the wrong decision.”

" Be certain that you are choosing an established ensemble of professional musicians for your ceremony or reception," notes Robin Tryon of the Silver & Strings Trio.   " Hiring student musicians, or putting together a group that is not used to performing together can have disastrous results.   Even with the best planning, ceremonies do not always go as planned. An ensemble that has performed together for years can adapt effortlessly to any last minute changes.
