Mother of the Bride
- after engagement : arrange to meet groom's parents if you haven't already met and/or host an engagement party
- 12-18 months : decide on a budget and determine who is paying for what - many brides and grooms contribute toward or entirely host their own wedding
- 12 months : begin guest list
- 6 months : finalize guest list, reserve accommodations for out-of-town guests, and order the invitations
- 3-6 months : begin to shop for your dress/gown and help spread the word
- 2 -3 months : order your dress/gown and accessories and provide description (and swatch if possible) to mother-of the groom so she can begin to shop for her dress/gown
- 2 weeks : call any of your guests who have not responded
Mother of the Groom
- 12-18 months - offer to contribute to the wedding if you desire
- 12 months : begin guest list
- 9 months : select rehearsal dinner location
- 6 months : finalize guest list
- 2 -3 months : order your dress/gown and accessories
- 3-4 weeks : invite guests to rehearsal dinner
- 2 weeks : call any of your guests who have not responded

Although each manufacturer is different, a good rule of thumb is to plan 12-16 weeks for your special order. With that type of timing, you will have the universe of dresses available to you and shipped in plenty of time for your big event."
