According to Patrice Catan owner of Catan Fashions, when purchasing a gown or special occasion dress online you must be sure that the store your ordering from is an authorized retailer of the particular dress you are looking to buy. "Check the websites contact page and make sure that they
have a “brick and mortar” store along with their web-store. (This means that they have a physical store address and not just a web-store.) Another red flag is a “LOW LOW” price, if the price looks a significant amount lower you have another cause for concern, the manufacturers set what they call MSRP pricing which is the price that the gown has to be sold at. If your dress is a lot lower priced on a website chances are the dress is either a fake or its not from an authorized retailer."
“Make sure the
quality of the gown is what you're expecting compared to the price. When
looking at gowns, notice the craftsmanship of the dress,” suggests Doreen
Leaf, owner of Doreen Leaf Designs. “You should be checking for finished
seams, even hemlines (lesser quality gowns tend to have uneven hemlines), and
making sure beads/sequins are adhered securely.”
Meg Walters of Henri's Cloud Nine points
out that ”Most full-service bridal shops offer a much wider selection of
gowns in a variety of styles that can be purchased off-the-rack in addition
to their custom-order gown inventory.
Full-service shops may carry upwards of 500 different gown styles,
whereas a discounter may only carry 25 or so styles and has no means of
custom ordering.”
Value isn’t just about price says Marcy Hudson of
Expressions Bridal & Formal. When searching for the “value” of bridal gown,
brides should look at quality of the product AND quality of the service at the
bridal store of their choice. So many
brides are searching just for the best bargain or the best price. What brides should look for is a bridal store
where they are treated like a princess, a store where they know your name when
you walk through the front door, and a store that is truly interested,
concerned and passionate about helping them find the dress of their
dreams.
“There is always a personal touch when you chose a full service bridal shop” says Daniela Ghinga of Dora’s Bridal & Formal. ”Full scale salons will be able to offer you everything from expert advice to alterations all under one roof.”
When shopping for your dream wedding gown,Cathie McCullough of Lavender Bridal Salon suggests bringing, "The people whose opinions you value most, aside from your fiancé. Your mom, sister or grandma are usually your best bet. The more opinions that are being voiced, the harder it is to hear your own. You need someone you trust and that their guidance is of value to you. After a decision is made, you should keep it quiet, you don’t want everyone to know what your gown looks
like before the wedding.
