Just as fashion imitates art, it’s also true that cake imitates fashion. We’ve seen that with rosette gowns that translated into rosette-inspired cakes, and now we’re seeing it with delicate buttercream ruffles and fondant frills!
If you’re not familiar with this trend, basically these cakes include layer upon layer of thin ruffles and frills — elements that are often found on a bride’s gown. (See cakes below.) It’s not difficult to see why so many couples are falling in love with these cakes. They add texture and interest to even the simplest of designs — all while making a modern yet romantic statement.
The best part of these textile-inspired cakes is that they can work for every bride. You can keep your cake white (with maybe a hint of blush pink) for an understated look or if you’re putting together a more vibrant celebration, you can talk to your baker about adding pops of color on your cake. Either way, you’ll be set to have one delicious and entirely chic confection!

Did you know Akron’s very own Rick Reeves of Reeves Cake Shop was a finalist for Next Great Baker – which is hosted by the Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro?! Within one week, Rick had to fill out a very intense application and participate in several phone interviews. The show producers must have liked what they heard – they then had him submit videos on specific topics like his hobbies and creating a cake in less than 5 minutes. Though he won’t be on the show (yet), you can still watch Rick at work! Here’s one of the videos he put together:
