FOR A HEALTHY MARRIAGE

NOBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT. . .

Money.  Or insurance. Boring, yes, but ultimately more important than seated meal vs. buffet.  topics that engage couples need to touch on, accoring to the Life and Health Insurance Foundation (life-line.org):

1.  An emergency savings fund.  Your goal should be to put away six months' worth of income in a savings account or money market fund that won't charge a penalty for withdrawals.

2.  Life insurance.  If something unforeseen should happen to one of you, the other will be able to cover expenses and debts.  Check with your employers to see if you're already covered and for how much.

3.  A will.  Bank accounts, jewelry, the condo-you want to put in writing where it goes when you go.

4.  Investments and debts.  Lay it all on the table.  Also, you and your about-to-be-spouse should decide where to keep vital items like certificates and safe-deposit box keys.

5.  Getting help.  If you can't agree on money matters, a financial planner can help you sort out life insurance, investments, and planning your future.
