Moms Just
Wanna Have Fun
Fortunately for Today’s modern moms,
contemporary Fashions Let Moms Wear What They Love!
Most
mothers today have a younger attitude than their predecessors. For them, their children's weddings don't
signal the end of motherhood. The marriage of a son or daughter simply means a
change in her role as a mother. This being the case, mothers of the bride and
groom want to look as young as they feel. But when it comes to choosing their
wedding attire, many moms don't know where to begin.
Professional
retailers that specialize in mother-of attire offer a wide selection of wedding
day apparel, so mothers-of should begin shopping as soon as possible. If you
must put it off, aim to have made a decision at least one month before the
wedding.
LOOK, AND
FEEL, COMFORTABLE
Traditional
rules of etiquette state that the mother of the bride purchase her dress first.
Her choice of color, cut, and length are meant to subtly dictate what the
mother of the groom will wear. The mother of the groom chooses a dress style
and color that is complimentary, although their dresses shouldn't match.
This
approach is merely customary, and certainly not definite. Some may find it a
little old-fashioned, not to mention a little unrealistic. What's most
important, however, is that everyone feels comfortable and beautiful.
Likewise,
tradition states the dresses of the bride’s and groom’s mothers should be in
harmony with the overall look of the wedding. Many mothers, however, are opting
for dresses that they'd wear to any formal occasion in lieu of something that
is officially designated a mother-of-the-bride gown. This allows her to choose
something that she feels is attractive, but that she can also wear again.
COLOR
THEM BEAUTIFUL
Some will
strictly follow the " rule" that the mother of the bride's color must
match or otherwise coordinate with the bridesmaids' attire. But there are
countless alternatives. Maybe stay within one color spectrum -- if the maids
are in baby blue, for instance, the mother can wear navy. But mixing and
matching can be just as stylish.
Fortunately,
times have changed, and many brides have no objection to moms in white who look
tailored and elegant. And, as always, black is classic, chic, and formal.
If you or
your mom are still uncomfortable with the idea, choose a color that will
coordinate. Look to colorful flowers in the bridesmaids' bouquets for
inspiration. You may also want to opt for a pattern that includes several
different colors.
Most
importantly, mom should talk to the bride. She may be very sensitive to the
color issue or completely indifferent. If she expresses reservation, think
about subdued-but-stately colors in the lavender, beige, silver, burgundy,
blue, and rose families.
These
days the emphasis is on individuality and personal style. The mothers of the
bride and groom should wear what they like and what makes them feel attractive.
In its own way, this day is as significant for them as it is for you, so pull
out all the stops and let the moms be magnificent.
